Winter Solstice December 21st ~ Use this time wisely!

Life tends to slow down a bit in the winter months. Obviously, here in Hawaii, the seasonal shift is a bit different than on the mainland where they get snow, but either way, the surroundings get quieter with the longer nights and shorter days.

This is the time that many animals go inward and hibernate. Even though American culture has taught us differently and expects us to continue the hustle, I feel that we are no different. Winter is the sign that we are approaching the completion of another year, and we need time to go within, reflect, process and integrate.

If you so choose to create space for your Self, it is within that crisp, cooler weather that you can immerse yourself into a space that allows for peace and quiet, warmth and comfort to listen. Listen to what is incubating between the space of the lively seasons (Summer/Spring).

This darkness and time of solitude calls for us to turn on our night vision - the vision that helps us weave our way through the unseen realms (this is a ‘supernatural’ sense that everyone has, but sometimes it requires practice and refinement of one’s skills to enhance these abilities). If used appropriately, this can be a divine time for inner reflection, healing, exploration, curiosity, resolution and new creations.

Reflection can be a tough journey for some due to the resistances one may have to facing, sitting with, and learning from the 'darker,' heavier or deeper emotions, feelings and experiences that may have taken place thus far this year.

So many of us want to manifest 'abundance' and move onto new and better experiences, but how are we supposed to move forward if we continue to ignore, and therefore be entangled with, the past? It is the very shadows that we have shoved those uncomfortable things away in that also hold the answers to what may be holding us back from truly living the life we dream of. In other words, if we want to move forward, we have to be honest about our past and bring acceptance and clarity into the now.

It is within the shadows, the darkness, the depths of ourselves that we discover the whispers of our Soul, the pleading of our inner child, the extensive, creative, and sometimes very supernatural, abilities that are awaiting their disclosure - which only become accessible and available when the inner resistances are brought into concordance.

Things may slow down a bit in the winter, but it does not mean be lazy. Winter Solstice is also the changing of the astrological signs, bringing us into the energy of Capricorn, which brings with it a determination and loyalty toward creating new systems and new structures with an unwavering determination.

This is perfect, considering we are witnessing the dismantling of the old systems that have kept our collective reality together for so long – governments, law systems, money systems, school systems, etc. It’s all coming to a point where we realize that what we have been doing is no longer going to work for where we are going.

If we choose to use these winter months wisely, we can give form to our deepest dreams and soul's yearnings; give life to what we Know is possible. It is also important to note that our dreams and goals cannot be accomplished alone. So this is a time to notice who is being brought into your path, who do you work well with, who is in alignment with co-creating your dreams together or supporting you in creating yours? This is my most favorite part, realizing that so many of us have very different and important skills that actually support each other’s dreams and passions!

Spring will be awaiting our finely cultivated seeds (intentions/plans of action), which is when we will plant, nurture, and grow our dreams into physical existence (if they haven't already taken form yet).

This is Your time, my sisters and brothers. Well, it’s always Your time (!), but really, though, this is Your incubation phase. Maybe you will rise with the sun/spring simply feeling rejuvenated and ready to embrace another year, or maybe, just maybe you may come into the light as a whole new version of your Self ready to share your newest expression with the world. Either way and anything in between is perfect, but you will not access any of it if you do not gift yourself the time and space to breathe and dive in.

Just one last insight about winter that you may find valuable! I mentioned this earlier this year, but for those that missed it or are new, I do not celebrate the new year according to the Gregorian Calendar on January 1. I acknowledge and begin my new year when the astrological new year begins which is March 21.

Whether you follow astrology or not does not matter. If you look at the energy of the seasons, does winter feel like a conducive energy to initiate all kinds of new beginnings? Astrology is what helped me understand more about the energetic components of the yearly patterns, but really, the seasons alone should help one see that winter is slow, quiet and making moves but more behind the scenes, whereas, spring is more of an opening energy, the time for planting seeds and putting things in motion…the perfect time for the beginning of a new yearly cycle!

Anyways, back to the solstice! Of course, setting some intentions and diving into a sound journey to connect to your inner world and beyond is my most suggested ritual to get the season started off just right!

Here’s a few introspective questions to help you invite the solstice energy into your flow.

Solstice Journaling / Reflection Ritual:
1) Acknowledge something that you have accomplished, overcome and/or learned this year. What deserves celebration? What did you learn? How can you apply these lessons into your life moving forward?

3)
Allow yourself to explore, imagine and play around with new ideas and plans.  Maybe there is something new you need to learn or gather to help put these plans into motion come springtime?

4) Once you discover a direction, begin putting your ideas/dreams onto paper. What will you need assistance with? What professionals may you need to reach out to for guidance or support? What are the first steps?

5) Do you feel any fears around any of this? Face them, make sense of them and/or do what is needed to feel and bring resolution to these fears in your mind/energy/body. You deserve to see truth and move forward.

No matter what you do, I encourage you to gift yourself extra time and space this winter to listen to what’s alive for you and align with your Soul's callings!

I hope you found this helpful!
